What does the EPALS course offer?

Are you a dedicated healthcare professional involved in the care of critically ill children? Equip yourself with the essential knowledge and practical skills to confidently manage deteriorating paediatric patients and cardiac arrests. This advanced two-day program is designed for doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other allied health professionals who are expected to lead or be part of a multidisciplinary team in a paediatric emergency.

All applicants must hold a professional healthcare qualification or be in training for a professional healthcare qualification. Medical students in their final year of training can be accepted as candidates on an EPALS course if this is an established local arrangement.

Course structure and preparation

  • Format: A two-day, face-to-face course held at an approved training centre
  • Pre-Course: Candidates receive a manual approximately one month in advance and must complete a pre-course MCQ paper online via the Learning Management System (LMS)

Learning outcomes

  • Recognising and managing the deteriorating child using a structured ABCDE approach
  • Delivering standardised high-quality CPR and safe defibrillation in children
  • Managing critically ill children, including those in cardiac arrest, within a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Developing effective leadership, teamwork, and communication skills during emergencies
  • Understanding intraosseous infusion, shock management, and post-resuscitation care
