Resuscitation Training for Dentists Providing Conscious Sedation
Dentists involved in conscious sedation must be able to deliver age-appropriate Immediate Life Support (ILS) or Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS), depending on the patient group treated. This means:
- ILS or PILS training is essential for all sedation practitioners.
- While Resuscitation Council (UK) accredited courses are recommended, alternative courses with equivalent content tailored to dental practice are acceptable.
- These courses should cover:
- Management of sedation-related emergencies
- Medical and dental emergency scenarios
- Dentists must maintain current life support skills and should not provide sedation if awaiting training unless advised by their indemnity provider.
Back to Life are a providor of Immediate Life Support (ILS) or Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS), including scenarios and simulation tailored towards dental surgeries and sedation. We are a Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) approved centre for both, so your candidates will receive RCUK certificates at no additional charge. We also provide ILS or PILS manuals as standard to aid your learning on the course.
For smaller practices or individuals who practice sedation, we also host RCUK Certificated ILS and PILS courses in Leatherhead, Surrey that are open to individuals to book on to. Please visit our upcoming courses page to learn more. Alternatively, you can join our Open Course Newsletter to receive a notification of any upcoming training courses.
